The Hotel is located in one of the most enchanting areas of Venice, an intimate place that is deeply loved by Venetians, who consider it one of the jewels of their city. The area that stretches between the Galleria dell'Accademia and Punta della Salute is extremely quiet, far from the hustle and bustle of the traditional tourist circuits but, at the same time, close to all the city's major centers of interest.
The Salute area is a place that brings out the contemplative side of every traveler. Perhaps this is why Ezra Pound and Allen Ginsberg chose to put down their roots here. Ezra lived for two years in the Salute's Hotel "da Cici". Allen found a house not far away. The two poets used to eat their meals at the "da Cici," discussing art.
Even Peggy Guggenheim, who had opened a contemporary art gallery in the nearby Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, loved to spend time at the old Cici, a reference point for both Italian and foreign artists.
Beginning after the war and for the entire decade of the Sixties, the Salute became a place of intense intellectual ferment. We recall painters like Guidi, Santomaso, Tallone, Carena and Vedova. Today, one still clearly senses a very special, cultured and creative atmosphere. |
